Betty's Divine

Creative Prompt: At Betty's Divine, we recently lost our beloved cat friend, Jethro. Please write a limerick about Jethro or a beloved furry friend of your own. Photographs of your pets highly encouraged.

What's a limerick again? The standard form is a stanza of five lines, with the first, second and fifth rhyming with one another and having three feet of three syllables each; and the shorter third and fourth lines also rhyming with each other, but having only two feet of three syllables.

This means that there can be between 7-10 syllables in the first, second, and fifth lines, while there can only be between 5-7 syllables in the third and fourth lines.

It's much easier for me to get when I read one and can see the AABBA rhyme scheme and hear the rhythm. Here's an example:

There once was a fish in the zoo

who was looking unusually blue.

One day, the fish died

and the zookeepers cried

as they flushed her down the loo.
